The Kalamazoo Concert Band boasts a diverse group of exceptional musicians from various backgrounds, including several professional conductors. The conductor for this concert, Brian Shelterly, (Assistant Conductor for KCB) has invited four talented local school band directors to serve as guest conductors – Cheryl Thomas of Three Rivers Schools, Caleb Piersma of Galesburg-Augusta Schools, Amanda Burchette of Marshall Schools, and Jan Edgerton, retired from Galesburg-Augusta Schools – each to conduct one of their favorite compositions. Additionally, we are thrilled to welcome Jason Fettig, a retired Colonel and former conductor of the esteemed The President’s Own Marine Band. Currently, Fettig holds the position of Director of Bands and Professor of Music at the University of Michigan.

The program promises to be an evening of fine musical performances, featuring a blend of classical and contemporary works. Clifton Williams’ stirring Fanfare and Allegro will set the stage, followed by a beautiful ballad titled “But For the Love of Ireland” by James Swearingen. You will hear Samuel Barber’s exciting Commando March and sway to Paris Montmarte, a collection of popular French tunes.
